"My work placement at a Global Company in their Shared Service Division. gave me a fantastic opportunity to see how the skills and knowledge that I have acquired in college can be applied in the workplace. The experience has helped me to sharpen my focus towards acquiring the necessary skill sets and formation to enable me to successfully move from student to employee. Dundalk Institute of Technology journeyed with me throughout my placement, giving me support, guidance and encouragement." Student of BBS Business & Management
"I’d like to start off by thanking everyone at GECKO Governance for being so welcoming to me on my placement here. I’m delighted to be staying on now as an employee. The placement has been such a great experience for me as it gave the opportunity to get a real insight into the Funds/Software/Business world which I hope to apply to my future career within the company. This included learning how to sell the software effectively in line with a business development strategy, and so much more! These were major learning factors which were not possible to gain from theory alone!
DkIT has done impeccable work with me through the whole process from getting me ready for the interview to building my confidence up so that I can go into Wall Street meetings feeling confident, I can’t thank them enough!” Student of BBS Business & Technology
"Going to work placement in a hotel that was a member of the “Leading Hotel of the World” was daunting at first but my college work grounding gave me the best possible advantage to succeed. Throughout my time on placement I learned to be organised, to work in a busy environment and most of all to contribute to the team and to the business. The benefits and experience from this placement should really enhance my job prospects in the future." Student of BA Event Management
"I have just finished my work placement for my Communication in Creative Media degree. I have found the placement is a very important and helpful process. In that, I gained valuable experience and contacts that I can develop and network when I finish my degree to find employment. I highly recommend in engaging in the process where you get the opportunity to work, learn from your chosen industry and also promote your skills to that industry first hand!" Student of BA Communications in Creative Media
"My time spent on work placement with Louth Sports Partnership provided me with the opportunity to gain invalid experience in the field of my studies. The documentation and supervision set out by DkIT during my placement provided me with clear goals and objectives thus allowing for guided and measured learning processes along the way. The experience created an opportunity for me to gain part time employment initially which in turn has led to a full time role with Louth County Council as a Sports Facilities and Programme Co-ordinator." Student of BA(Hons) Sport, Exercise & Enterprise
"Practice placement is an integral part of my Applied Social Care course. I have now completed two placements. I have found both placement sites to be excellent and very interested in my learning and development as a social care professional. The preparation and support from DkIT was also excellent in my opinion. I was facilitated in getting the placement that I wanted from a diverse list of sites and we were all very well briefed by our placement co-ordinator in what to expect. My placement co-ordinator was always on hand with helpful direction and advice.
Without actually working in a social care environment and experiencing first-hand the reality for service user and workers, I feel that the importance of the theory that I learned would have been completely lost on me. On top of this my experiences on practice placement served to inspired me and reminded me of why I had chosen to become a Social Care Worker in the first place." Student of BA(Hons) Applied Social Studies in Social Care
"Work placement gave me the opportunity to broaden my understanding and knowledge of the social care sector. Practical examples of classroom learning proved to be invaluable in further understanding the concepts, theories and skills applied to social work. Post placement I feel better prepared for, and aware of the challenges and rewards of working in my chosen field. DKIT were instrumental in supporting me, by instilling the confidence and knowledge to pursue my goal of seeking placement in this area." Student BA (Hons) Social Care student
