One Health at DkIT

As part of the 'One Health' initiative at DkIT, the School of Health & Science will run a seminar series to assist in identifying synergies between the human health, animal health and environmental fields.

Across the Lifespan - for current and future generations

The ‘One Health’ concept is a worldwide strategy for expanding interdisciplinary collaborations and communications in all aspects of health and wellbeing for humans, animals and the environment.

The School of Health and Science at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) have adopted this 'One Health' strategy to develop interdisciplinary programmes of study and research and communicate the 'One Health' concept to our community.

As part of this strategy, we are hosting a Seminar Series which will cover all aspects of health and science, assisting in the provision of up to date information and research to our DkIT community.

Seminar Series

We will host three seminars in Spring 2021 that focus on the 'One Health' at DkIT. The aim of the Seminar Series is encourage dialogue between colleagues in the field to help identify synergies between the human health, animal health and environmental fields. The series will also assist in the provision of up to date information and research to our DkIT community which ultimately will hope to assist in the delivery of improved health and well being for all.

The International 'One Health' Strategy

The One Health concept recognises that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. Many professionals with a range of expertise who are active in different sectors, such as public health, animal health, plant health and the environment join forces to support One Health approaches.

UN agencies, including the World Health Organization, the World Organisation for Animal Health and the Food and Agriculture Organisation recognise that adopting a ‘One Health’ approach is key to meeting grand challenges to our health such as climate change and antimicrobial resistance.
